I managed to digitally purchase the volumes but can somebody (who can read Japanese) please provide a detailed purchasing guide for those outside of Japan. The kobo.com link did not allow me to purchase the volumes so I had to go through rakuten.co.jp and find the volumes there, but it turns out there are two separate purchasing flows, one of which required a (japanese?) phone number I couldn't get past and another that went through WorldShopping that actually worked. I don't feel qualified to provide this guide because I was basically clicking around blind.

Yeah, I think there was some policy change at Kobo, so even though I've been buying my raw manga there for a few years there, I can't recommend it anymore for that. BookWalker is the easier route if you don't have a Japanese address and phone number.

Yeah, these kind of manga tend to generate a lot of projecting/wishful thinking that it frankly doesn't deserve. The good news is that there are manga that actually deal with gender identity and non-conformity seriously. Maybe not many, but we don't need to settle for this kind of manga anymore.

If I just wanted to see Serious Trans Representation, I wouldn't be reading this. And I think it's essential to the type of story being offered here that (1) it's a comedy, (2) the "crossdressing boy" might be a repressed transfeminine person (insert "meet potential man" meme here) and (3) the cis lead is a girl so there's also yuri bait. Serious Trans Representation in anime/manga tends to be pretty depressing and to stay far away from lesbianism.

As usual, any expectations that such a story will stop beating around the bush about anything gender-related (besides settling for the default "let boys be cute" option), are extremely unlikely to pay off. But it can still be worth it, considering that "a trans girl/woman realizes she's a girl" is an especially rare type of trans narrative, especially in long form media. Also, these stories can still be interesting sometimes, even if unintentionally.

My go-to recommendation for a manga series with a trans girl protagonist who doesn't immediately know she's a girl would be 'Ore ga Watashi ni Naru made', and even that one uses a speculative gender-bender mechanic as an excuse to breach the apparently taboo idea that most trans girls/women do not just spawn into the world already understanding who they are and what they need.

Maybe this type of narrative arc is so under-explored outside of indie projects because trans representation is so scary and confusing to cis audiences to begin with that it requires a warning in advance, and then it immediately needs to justify itself as representation by being as blatant as possible, which makes any longer and nuanced trans self-discovery arc virtually impossible, especially for a protagonist. Fortunately I can (and do) just read books written by and for trans women, but sometimes I still want to read manga and something like this series can be at least good for a laugh.

Cupids murdering humans is a can of worms that I did not expect to get opened. I guess now it's more likely that Koharu was also killed by a cupid. Also, now that I read ch 14 again, I realized I somehow totally missed Sae was a cupid posing as human...

The return of the queen!

Everyone is talking about how she left her contact info, but it uses her business name, so isn't that just her business contact?

Other than Tsuki, 'lys' means lily in French so I can only assume it refers to the health delivery network she's a member of.

because i am a defective freak the way i'm hoping this will go is momiji becomes a girl forever, where ao's willpower overwhelms kouyou. disappear for us, kouyou. make way for momiji

(the pessimist in me is not so confident)

There's nothing weird about rooting for that outcome, against all odds. A story where a boy pretends to be a girl as a means to an end is begging for an ironic outcome, and what could be a more poetic irony than the fake girl becoming real? Mainstream media is full of those kind of plots, especially in romance. Fake dating inevitably becomes real, and people love that and view it as beautiful. But somehow a fake girl can't become real, in fact the very idea is too silly to consider? It makes perfect sense to call that bullshit.

The outrage on yuritwt was caused by Manga Mogure rage baiting with sneaking "yuri(?)" into their description of the series. The creators did not try to sell this series as yuri; in all official communication this was just a romcom, and at most crossdressing was mentioned.

As for removing the series from Dynasty, the people of yuritwt wouldn't be placated by that since most of them are not regulars here.

Also, didn't something like this happen in Sasameki Koto?

IIRC there was a crossdressing boy in the anime; I forget why.

Yes, the protagonist of that series is a tomboy (Sumika), and she has a male classmate (Masaki) who adopts a girl alter ego to appeal to her tastes. The main difference is that Sumika starts that series already pining for her lesbian girl bestie, Ushio, so Masaki is somewhat of a loser heroine. He's also a more shy and quiet type, with no history of being mean to Sumika. He makes for such a pretty girl that her alter ego is hired to model for fashion magazines for a while, and ends up briefly catching Ushio's attention.

I might be one of the few people who liked that arc? The main weakness of it was that a bit too much of the shenanigans hinged on Masaki's younger sister. On the other hand, the fact that most of the (cis) girls in that series were so messy probably helped make Masaki stand out with his gentle demeanor (both in boy and girl mode).

Huh, maybe the creators of this series should have also surrounded the title character with a gaggle of messy, card carrying lesbians. They still have time to course correct...

They're already sleeping in the same bed as if it's normal!

I know it's probably better for Yuri if she doesn't get in another relationship for a while but jeezus the way she's thinking about Atsuko here... I'm gonna be sick

I'm surprised by how relieved I was that they didn't go through with it.

Also, Mai ends up clinging to Rinon without holding on to the railing? That was really risky but maybe that makes it harder to deny for Rinon that Mai wasn't just scared for herself, even though she had every reason to prioritize her own safety

I mean it's exactly what I would expect from Takeda Ayano honestly, she clearly has the proclivity for this kind of stories.

the way Kumiko thought about and acted around some of her female bandmates was not that far off from this

I wonder if Hikaru will realize that her dilemma is pretty similar to "but we're both girls". Even though Misono knows her secret and in practical terms doesn't treat her as a boy.

From what I gather, it's unclear why Astora divulged that one detail (i.e., nobody has survived attempting the final boss) to Nana and kept it from Luliam.

Also, I actually like the idea of Luliam and Nana scheming behind each other's back...

Sorawo is so cute when she's sulking about how much Toriko fusses over her

When did the story say Toriko's moms have died? I only remember her mentioning them once, and how she was originally from Canada(?). So I assumed they were living there and Toriko came to Japan to study.

Kozakura mentions it first in File 4. But Sorawo doesn't realize that Toriko had two mothers until much later in File 9.

Genre tags are decided by the publisher, I think. Maybe Kuzushiro's works aren't marketed as yuri because they don't focus on romance. Maybe the fact the most of the relationships start as platonic and only become romantic later as the characters come to know each other make not "romance". Which you would think is normal, but I guess in the majority of the romance genre the main pairing is expected to be set up since the beggining.

The Moon on a Rainy Night is different though, like when a series with similar pacing and speed of 'progress' is straight, people just call it romance. It's only unusual by yuri manga standards because it's way longer than what we can usually expect.

Damn, Mocchi has her work cut out for her. Amano has what looks to be a working adult in her rotation, and Mashiro also seems to be older, possibly a college student now.

And I don't remember if it's already been confirmed that Amano remembers Mocchi, but based on her narration in the bathtub I think she does remember.

she is never getting over sui-chan. im also kinda curious what will mizuki think when she finds out abt ren's employment as a rent a gf. she seems like the type to not be flexible yk

Yeah also the thing she said about guys only caring about their own pleasure but that's what she did just now lol

Mizuki seems a bit spoiled but I don't think that really compares to what she says about the men she's dated

We know of a cluster of sensations and emotions that are alleviated when trans people transition, which is commonly summarized as gender dysphoria, and gender euphoria, a related "opposite" cluster that is brought about by transition. And the evidence is at this point overwhelming, that no incentive or benefit (financial, romantic, etc.) can compare to these. Which contradicts you saying that, as a cis man, having to live as a woman would be a mere inconvenience for you that you'd just power through for the right reward.

What we actually know is that some people feel dysphoria, and euphoria on transition. That does not mean that every non-trans person would feel dysphoria if they magically transitioned. Genderfluidity exists, and what some dub "gendercasual".

Quite a bunch of people think that they wouldn't care much if they woke up as the opposite sex, without feeling any urge to actually explore it in reality. Whether they're correct or not is untestable, since we can't do scenarios like the manga's.

I addressed that in my next paragraph. I never said gender-fluidity was not real. I was trying to criticize the framework the person I quoted was using to speculate about the main character's gender.

If a boy suffers zero psychological stress from "pretending" to be a girl, for the rest of his life, then how does his gender identity affect anything? "I'm a cis man and I wouldn't care" is only a partial answer. What about other cis men, are most of them gender-fluid or gender-agnostic? And if they are, what does that say about the concept of cisness, about gender identity?

If there are cis men in our world who only identify as such only due to inertia, just going with the flow, then why not the inverse of this? If Yuuri ends up going with the flow, accepting his new life where people treat him as a girl, what will be the distinction between him and a cis girl who is also just going with the flow?

I know some (a lot of?) people get uncomfortable when the discussion gets deeper than the surface level ("what if magical sex-reassignment in real life"), and that's why I'm trying to push on the weak points of the arguments I see.
